Luther's Catechism and Explanation

What is the Catechism? 

 

A catechism is book of instruction, usually in the form of questions and answers.

 

Luther’s Catechism is brief teaching tool written by Dr. Martin Luther in 1529. 

It was actually designed for families to share together at home to emphasize the basic teachings of the Christian faith, in a simple way.

 

The Catechism sums up Christian teaching by dividing it into the following Six Chief Parts:

 

The Ten Commandments
The Creed
The Lord’s Prayer
Confession
The Sacrament of Holy Baptism
The Sacrament of the Altar (Holy Communion)
